Eisegesis Alert

Check this out. Notice anything wrong with the Scripture passage quoted in the banner on this website? I saw this over at Justin Taylor's blog.

The verse they quote
--------------------------
Luke 4:7 if thou therefore wilt worship me, all shall be thine.
--------------------------
the next verse:
---------------------------
Luke 4:8 Get behind me Satan:
---------------------------

hehe that is funny, It was Satan who said this to Jesus.

That is prety wild.

I can't believe that a church of any stripe would use this verse for their headliner. This is unbelievable.

There must be a conspiracy behind it. The United Church of Christ are Luciferians evidently.

Or they just have a weird sense of humour?

Doesn't exactly give me a warm and fuzzy feeling to run out and join that church. Wow!

It is rather intriguing. They surely must know where it comes from.

They are either very evil or they have a very clever sense of humour that is rather attractive, though perhaps not edifying.

As a note... they have fixed the quotation (it now just says their phone number). You may have to refresh the page to see it corrected.

Also in the announcements they thank those who let them know about the error.

They have so many horrible things on that site that this does not make up for, but at least as far as this quotation goes - they have fixed it.

They should have just said it was to test us. They have made themselves look silly by apologising.

They must have known where it came from; how can that have been a mistake?

Mike,

Yeah, I saw that. Too bad.

I disagree wholeheartedly with this statement. I do not believe for a second that they are a Solid Christian Church, but I would hope that if solid Christians ever do make a mistake that we would admit it and apologize rather than lie to make ourselves look better.

They must have known where it came from; how can that have been a mistake?

Again, I won't pretend to defend this church but I will take issue with this. Everyone makes mistakes at one time or another when it comes to the bible (and anything else). People routinely misquote verses, give credit to the wrong author, and other flaws on blogs.

Well, they certainly are an apostate church.

It just seems such a strange mistake to make. I just find it hard to believe that they did not spot that one.
