Radical Scripture Memory

Back in August I read John Piper's When I Don't Desire God, which is basically a study of spiritual disciplines and why God uses them as means of grace in our lives. The best thing about the book was its challenge to radical Scripture memorization. He even offered a technique for memorizing a verse per day. Although I had memorized Scripture during Bible camp, VBS, and Bible college, I had never memorized the Bible on my own for a very consistent time period. So I decided to give it a go and it has been thoroughly rewarding. I'm working through Ephesians right now. I've also seen several of my friends start working on Scripture memory. It has been truly a blessing.

Hmm

Stuart Hackett, the long-time philosopher prof at Wheaton and Trinity, once said, "I'm a whiskey Calvinist--of the five points, I can only swallow one fifth." Hehehehe

Destruction of the Canaanites

Our pastor, Dan Williams, has been going through the book of Joshua lately. So when he asked me to preach a few weeks ago. I decided to speak of the ban in Deut. 7. I thought that might be in the mind of a lot of folks as we study Joshua. Although I was worried that it might be too difficult of a topic, I really enjoyed preaching on the subject and I got a pretty good response. I guess that was a question that a lot of people were thinking about. If I feel up to it, I might post for you all to look at.

It's Been a Long While

Wow! I just got tiring of blogging for a bit. I still kept up with some other blogs; however, I didn't feel like I had that much to say lately. Well, I'll try to start posting again.

Here's some stuff that I've found interesting as of late.

The Paul Page--it deals with the New Perspective on Paul. There's some articles for it and against it. Personally, I think that the NP is helpful in some areas, but I can't accept all of Wright and Dunn's conclusions. If you're interested in the study of Romans or Galatians, check it out.

Chess--when I was a kid, I loved chess. Just recently, I rediscovered my love of the game. I'm getting my butt kicked contistently online, but I hope that I'm getting better. Maybe.

Blackhawk--the pastor of this church is Chris Dolson. He's a great expositor. He does a great job dealing with the Bible as literature. His illustrations are fantastic!

Nebraska football--I'm an addict. Still not sure about Callahan's offense. We'll have to see about next year, but at least we demolished Colorado, the evil empire, in the People's Republic of Boulder. How I loath you with a holy hatred, Buffs!
