Bono on Sunglasses and God

Shelley recently ran across this quote from U2 lead singer Bono: "Coolness might help in your negotiation with people in the world, maybe, but it is impossible to meet God with sunglasses on. It is impossible to meet God without abandon, without exposing yourself."

Yep, I've heard that too. I know that he has endorsed The Message, Eugene Peterson's paraphrase of the Bible.

I like his quote especially the "exposing yourself" part I have been doing alot of thinking about what it means to be surrendered to God. I've been reading "The Jesus creed" by scott Mcnight and he does a section on honesty with God, sharing the most personal things that we know about ourselves with God. It could be a very freeing experience to be exposed. I only hope to learn how to be honest with God someday.

Scott McKnight's blog is excellent. He's really a great guy as well. On his blog, I asked him for some stuff that he wrote on Hebrews, and he just mailed it to me. www.jesuscreed.blogspot.com

Bono should simply quit trying to be cool with his advice and live it out. I like u2;s music for what it's worth but his statement drips with an attitude of the culture that too many Christians are willing to run with, like I'll take God and fit in with everyone also cause i'm cool too. hence the christian music scene, hey guys don't be clear about the message cause we might get discovered

oh yeah "Bono is awesome" correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that a description of God. He(Bono) is not.

I'm not saying that u can olny use the word awesome when referring to God. Many Christian bands do not mention God in their songs period.e.g. reliant k, five iron frenzy just to name a couple. Your right it doesn't affect their ministry because they don't seem to be ministering!! i conceed they don't have to mention Him in every song, but He must be the center of their ministry, music and message and for many bands he is not!!

i'm not saying none of their songs talk about God but He is not the center of their message. if they are ministering they ought to know what ministering is, The Word of God is the power of God and so to be the way to minister for it is where the power to change live is. "Sadie Hawkins dance is not preaching God's Word, if these bands are not ministering then fine have fun but they seem to claim they are , if i'm wrong i'm sure you will tell me. ps. post you e-mail so i can quit filling up Daniel's blog or not? put some songs in your e-mailto show the proof of the ministering, rsjanis@hotmail.com
